Mario was an excellent collaborator and provided exactly what I needed and more. He thoughtfully listened to my needs, asked clarifying questions as needed, and stuck to our agreed schedule. Mario was receptive to feedback and requests for minor modifications as we were wrapping up the project, and he even exceeded his scope with some additional exhibits at no extra cost, which was very kind and helpful. Mario has great knowledge of many native plants, and did extra research to understand my region (Arkansas, US) and ensure the plant selections would be successful. Bottom line: Mario has been the best contractor experience we have ever had on Upwork If you need landscape designer you should just hire him ASAP. We engaged him to build the designs of the exterior landscape for our first home (upstate NY, approx two acres of design.) The man knows flowers, bushes, grass, trees of all kinds (even the fruit trees that grow in our region!) but that's not all! Add to that bonus stonework, exterior lighting, local animal behavior (what will the deer eat?) and we had our ideal expert. If you want spectacular attention to the details of your outdoor project, Mario will exceed any expectation you have. But, as many know who have used Upwork and similar services, the biggest impediment to a successful project can be COMMUNICATION. We CAN NOT say enough about how amazing Mario was with communication. We were talking on the phone, or WhatsApp, or Video, or email, or sharing files, CONSTANTLY throughout the project. He was always available to discuss the project, which is fantastic in itself, but even more important was that from the first conversation, it was clear that he wanted to know what WE wanted. He was immediately focused on our broad vision of the project, and he listened! At every point during the contract we felt as though Mario was our partner in the process. We traded design ideas constantly, and while we often deferred to Mario's expertise, we never felt like we were not being heard. To the contrary, he went above and beyond to tailor his designs and renderings to our discussions. As for technology, expect top tier schematics and 3d renderings. For the lists of flora, expect highly detailed spreadsheets. If you need to work with a separate builder/planter, Mario will communicate with that third party. For price, the amount of work that Mario put into our project far exceeded what we could've hoped to get from the contract price. Ultimately, just don't think too hard about this. If you need the best in landscape design, get Mario if he is available. He has a passion for his craft that extends equally to his work and his clients, and you don't find that very often. I had never used Upwork prior to working with Mario, in fact I was a bit skeptical. He was upfront about his qualifications and very respectful of the time I had available to complete my task. Mario was very easy to talk to. My project, in Fishers, IN, was subject to a pretty restrictive UDO (unified development ordinance) which meant specific plants had to be place in certain places, certain percentages of use and cover, and a small space where he could flex some creativity. Mario really did a nice job of making what could be considered "boring" landscape restrictions. I wouldnt hesitate at all to use him again in the future for this or another project. If youre on the fence about hiring a freelancer vs. traditional designer, I highly suggest talking to Mario to see if he can meet your goals

After a challenging journey with two previous landscape architects who failed to meet our expectations, we finally found success with Mario. The earlier attempts resulted in incomplete plans, long delays, and a lot of frustration. However, Mario changed everything for us. Despite being located outside our area, Mario's expertise and professionalism were evident from our initial Zoom meeting. He carefully balanced my wife's and my differing tastes, guiding us toward a cohesive vision for our forever home. We opted for his full package, which was more than just a plan—it connected our home's exterior and interior in a way that no one else had achieved. One of the standout features of Mario's work was the 3D renderings. They were not only visually impressive but also incredibly practical. These renders became the go-to reference for various contractors, from electricians to plumbers, simplifying communication and ensuring everyone was on the same page.
