# Add a custom domain

> Point a subdomain you own at your Wall of Love and landing page.

Point a subdomain you own at your Wall of Love and landing page. Custom domains are available on paid plans. You need access to your domain’s DNS settings.

## What is a subdomain?

A subdomain sits in front of your main domain. Example: `love.yourwebsite.com` uses the subdomain **love** on **yourwebsite.com**.

Use a subdomain. Root domains such as `your-company.com` are not accepted.

---

## Add the custom domain in Testimonial

1. On the dashboard, click the 3-dot icon on the space card and select **Custom domain**.

2. Enter a subdomain, not the root domain. Common choices:

    - `testimonial.yourwebsite.com`

    - `love.yourwebsite.com`

    - `shoutout.yourwebsite.com`

        ![](https://apuqtiwclzoqhluvxsdm.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/help-center/10/1022b0f1710e5ff25eb2e0b4c467475c.png)

3. As you type, a CNAME table appears with copy buttons. Copy these values:

    - **Type:** CNAME

    - **Name:** the subdomain label. For `love.yourwebsite.com`, Name is `love`.

    - **Value:** `cname.testimonial.to`

        ![](https://apuqtiwclzoqhluvxsdm.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/help-center/c6/c6e2c70b940e039ea292decfba8ed045.png)

4. Pick your DNS host and follow the short steps. Hosts include Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google/Squarespace, Route 53, and Other. On Cloudflare, turn the proxy off so the cloud is grey (DNS only), not orange.

5. Click **Check DNS**. The result is **connected**, **mismatch**, or **missing**.

6. After the record points at `cname.testimonial.to`, click **Retry connection**. The secure connection (SSL) can take a few minutes.

7. When the domain is set, the **Custom domain** row in the space sidebar shows the hostname.

## CNAME details

If the custom domain is `testimonial.yourwebsite.com`, Name is `testimonial` and Value is `cname.testimonial.to`.

**Note:** If you later remove the custom domain from Testimonial, also remove the CNAME record.

Host docs, if you need them:

- [Cloudflare](https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019093151) — set the CNAME to DNS only, not proxied.

- [Namecheap](https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/9646/2237/how-to-create-a-cname-record-for-your-domain/)

- [GoDaddy](https://www.godaddy.com/help/add-a-cname-record-19236)

Add a favicon for the custom domain in Extra Settings under [Group Meta Tag](https://help.testimonial.to/en/articles/9452021-group-meta-tag). Upload the icon and save.

**Note:** DNS can take more than 24 hours. It often finishes sooner. Use **Check DNS** in the custom domain modal for the current result.

## Troubleshooting

## The page layout looks different

If you just added the domain and the layout does not match the testimonial.to URL, message us in the chat widget.

## The domain does not work yet

- Click **Check DNS**. **Connected** means the record matches. **Mismatch** means a record exists, but the value is not `cname.testimonial.to`. **Missing** means the CNAME is not visible yet.

- Wait for the CNAME to propagate. That can take 24 to 72 hours depending on your provider.

- You can also check the record at [What’s My DNS](https://www.whatsmydns.net/#CNAME/).

1. Enter your subdomain.

2. Select the CNAME record type.

3. Click Search. A working record looks like this:

    ![](https://apuqtiwclzoqhluvxsdm.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/help-center/74/74093b5ebdf8f473e6d90b8b2af41541.png)

Once the record points at `cname.testimonial.to`, click **Retry connection**. The secure connection (SSL) can take a few minutes.

## CNAME is added but the domain still fails

- On Cloudflare, set the CNAME to DNS only, not proxied. The cloud must be grey, not orange.

    ![notion image](https://apuqtiwclzoqhluvxsdm.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/help-center/b1/b1eb7ed0a1596cd419ce85835fc70768.png)

- Do not add more than one record for the same name. DNS does not allow two CNAME records on one name, and a CNAME cannot sit next to an A record for the same host. Example: if `love.yourwebsite.com` CNAMEs to `cname.testimonial.to`, do not also add an A record for `love.yourwebsite.com`.
