I was a total newbie to painting when I discovered Kathleen was offering free online lessons during the pandemic. (2020) I knew I wanted to paint 'real' art and not just craft art. I have learned so much and now with Kathleen's MMW, I 'feel' and 'know' I have an artist in me! I'm amazed at the range of colors that can be created from just 3 paint colors. Kathleen is an excellent instructor who wants her students to develop the love and passion like she has for her art. I'm so happy she has become my friend and mentor!

I have honestly wanted to learn how to oil paint since as long as I can remember, but it always seemed very complex until I took a class at Chroma 30a. Kathleen was such a great teacher and honestly launched my obsession with oil paints. There’s no way you can not enjoy one of her classes. I have even reached out to her with a couple questions afterwards and she has been so helpful and encouraging. I look forward to my next class.

I started painting 20 years ago but was never able to find the right teach or group that actually taught the “process” of how to create a good painting. I had seen something on Facebook about Kathleen Broaderick and she was doing a 3 day workshop at her studio ,Chroma, in Santa Rosa Beach. I loved they way she painted and couldn’t get enough of her vivacious personality. I signed up , sent her a check and was all ready when Covid hit. She switched gears and taught her class on Facebook live. She would go step by step from what size canvas to colors of acrylic paint she would be using. I was hooked, the results were great. The hard part was learning the technicals skills on my I pad. I decided I really wanted and could become a better artist. Kathleen developed her very first Essential Art class on line. We were stuck at home during the first part of Covid so I signed up again. It was a 10 week course on the 10 essential elements of art. I talked my sister into taking it . She had been taking different classes and workshops in watercolor painting. That changed everything for me . It is so important to have and recognize these elements in any type of art. I have stuck with it and am now joined her group that we get a reference photo each month to paint and post our work we critique each other and she gives her suggestions on areas we should work on. There are 2 zoom calls that are so helpful then we can put in changes and develop a great piece of art. I can highly recommend any of the classes whether u are a beginner or a seasoned artist . I have switched mediums to oils which I love but was never shown how to not only mix my paints but how to clean brushes and prep your canvas or even where to buy your supplies. All I can say is if u take the time and give it a try u too will fall in love with her process .

I started painting and following Kathleen about 5 years ago. My experiences have been both in person and online and she always delivers an outstanding experience for her students. I have acquired so much knowledge and confidence and I am always eager for more information when I complete her classes. I feel confident because Kathleen has taught me about the elements of art, color theory, mixing color and I now have a great understanding of value as a result of working with her. She is the BEST!!!

I stumbled on to Kathleen during Covid when she was offering paint along classes on Mondays as a way to brighten our days during a difficult time. When I began painting with her, I had been painting with watercolors but had no formal education/instruction.I was quickly hooked. I can’t recommend Elements of Art enough. I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know, needed to know and will continue to know to keep improving. Kathleen is an excellent engaging teacher and the videos are great fun & the zoom calls very helpful.

We winter in Destin, FL for a few weeks each year and a friend encouraged me to sign up for an in person painting class with Kathleen. I have always loved drawing and painting but had not really done much up until then. I loved it. Kathleen is a great teacher who wants to give you the skills to create art of your own. During Covid I painted inI acrylics online with Kathleen and have continued for the last 3 years by enrolling in each of the Chroma classes. The latest adventure has been using oils for the first time. Kathleen’s process is amazing and each month we try something new. She is very ready to answer any questions or concerns, her critiques are always helpful. The Chroma courses have opened my eyes to the elements of art and that has made all the difference!

Take a class on line( I did, the process was seem less) or when you can in studio. Kathleen is so great, and kind to help fellow artist. She taught me so much in her basic class.

I have been painting with Kathleen for approximately 4 years. I have participated in online classes and an in person class. I am also an active participant in her Facebook groups. My artistic progression is the direct result of Kathleen’s ability to connect with her students, her thoughtful personality and her passion for art. I have developed so much confidence with color theory and composition and Kathleen has helped me develop my own artistic language. She is passionate and patient and consistently finds ways to keep her students engaged. Her online classes are superb!

I found Kathleen about 5 years ago. Her studio was close to my real estate office. I loved her work and took several classes from her. I also brought my granddaughter who loved taking her classes with me. Then I sold an expensive house that had been stripped of all the art. I asked Kathleen for a private class and I showed up with a huge canvas. She was surprised but let me paint along with her. My clients loved it. My art journey has been on hold for a year or two, but I will pick it back up and take more classes from Kathleen.

Hello! My name is Georgia Kellogg and I live on an island on the southeast coast! I started taking art lessons back in 2002 after suffering from post partum depression along with PTSD from a failed marriage! In order to avoid getting on SSRI’s and other medications, I was suggested by my doctor to look into art therapy. I have taken art classes from various local artists and even had my own art studio about 16 years ago. I work in the mental health field as a Neurotherapist and use art as my own form of therapy! I have known Kathleen from many years ago while living in Chicago. Fast forward to a few years ago and while looking through a Ballard’s Design magazine, I noticed her name from her beautiful art paintings and was wondered if that was the same Kathleen I knew from our days in Chicago! I started taking classes with Kathleen a couple of years ago and I absolutely love her style. I have learned things that I didn’t really focus on before such as values and shapes and also becoming more of a “loose” painter; which is probably the best thing that I have accomplished thus far from being a member of Chroma classes. Kathleen is a fantastic art teacher and so grateful to be able to continue on my artistic journey!
