Wall of love for Product League

Between the ages of 13 to 18 I volunteered on a weekly basis in various altruist social causes for disadvantaged populations, through my youth movement. I remember how mind-blown I was from the sense of extreme satisfaction I had after these activities.🎗️ It’s been a while since those days, and I continued to volunteer in various programs throughout my career, and as time passed, my passion for volunteering channeled towards professional volunteering - Help people and organizations do better (what I seem to do well 🙃) within my profession. That’s the way I arrived at Product League and other mentorship programs. From a pseudo-economic angle - I understand that the marginal value I provide to those I mentor, who mostly have their things well set in life, and that are focused on the 4th and 5th Maslow steps e.g. fine tune their professional direction, overcome a professional challenge or get support on their career development path, is less powerful than the impact I had on Single-parent families, hospitalized youth, children on the spectrum or visually impaired. 🙏 However, I do believe that this activity permeates on : - Better professionals with prosperous, profitable and stable careers - Better technological products, healthier, more usable and impactful on users/consumers, companies and the people behind them - NGOs and non-profits I channel mentees to volunteer in and gain experience I am proud to complete my 4th batch of Product League cycle! 🏆Thanks Moriya Kassis for another round.

This is my second batch as a #mentor at Product League. Winter is usually known for having lots of rain, and rain is one of the meanings of my Hebrew name (Raviv).   I’m extremely happy for the opportunity to #volunteer in this program as a Product Manager #mentor and bring my experience and contribute to the #success of others. Last week ended a thrilling mentorship engagement with Product League and my amazing mentee Carolina Munoz, whose curiosity helped me re-think the fundamentals and gain new perspective in more ways than one. Win-win :) Not being in the same city, we settled for a virtual hi5 during our last session to mark this little victory.

Last week marked my last session with Ilil Ben-Shalom as part of our Product League journey together to become #TheBestPMICanBe. Although we have not met in person (because you bailed on me!) I wanted to let all know that I had an amazing time with you, talking on a weekly basis about the challenges of a Product Manager (and life in general) and thinking together about how can I become better. I had a great inspiring experience being a #mentor and building a #product mentoring plan. It was a real plesure and I take a lot of insights with me. Being a #mentor is a big responsibility and I had a great mantee to share this process with. Thank you Product League. It was meaningful.

What a great way to close first month of mentoring program at Product League with this awesome #SwagPack! This month was very exciting, I started to get to know and work with my mentor, working on my skills, networking and meeting new people. Thank you Product League for boosting my motivation even more, and for all the thought and details that were invested in creating this pack. I'm considering changing my favorite color to orange 😄

Check out the image in this post. It's always shocking how hard knowledge is to acquire, and how easy to lose. You re-learn things, or find out something that was under your nose for years, and yet out of reach. Time Management is one such skill - no one teaches it at school, or at uni, and we're expected to be magically good at it. We spend years doing math, or reading the freaking bible (no disrespect, I appreciate a good story with a moral) but not even a day learning how to prioritize tasks and how to organize our schedule. Yulia Reizer, my wife, is a source of inspiration in this, as her whole day is planned weeks in advance, via "Tick Tick". She's never at a loss as to what to do next, in fact, she's freer than most of us, because she's never stressed out about what's next and SHE controls her schedule, not others. So, to get this weekly planner from Product League is a boon. I can't get over the "KPIs in ink, Strategy in pencil" combo. Simple, powerful, and alas, all TOO RARE. One can also blame me for a lot of things, but inaction isn't one of them, so the "He believed he could, so he did" keychain is magic. When something doesn't work, I want to fix it, and I'd rather (as the saying goes) "apologize, than ask for permission" to do something worthwhile doing. Thank you, Moriya Kassis. The value I derive from mentoring far exceeds any potential monetary compensation for it.

Two weeks ago I’ve received from Product League the coolest swag pack I’ve seen in a while. It arrived the same day when the entire world turned upside down and since then has been sitting quietly in a corner. But I don’t want to miss the opportunity to give them a shout-out for running an incredible product management #mentorship program and for all the insightful events they are organizing! It the second cohort I join as a mentor and have had the chance to meet so many talented and ambitious Product managers all over the world, help grow the product management community and learn so much as well. It all reinforces two values we should embrace even more duriring the current times: 1. Always invest in yourself and in your personal growth! Your knowledge, skills and experience are something nobody can take away from you. If everything would go away over night and you would need to start again from scratch they are the main things you can count on. 2. Try to help and support the ones around you as much as you can! Especially teach them ‘how to fish’ instead of just providing the fish. For sure everyone has a least one skill somebody else is interested to learn, so openly share your knowledge to the ones that want to listen.

Winter is coming, and the Product League's 2022 Summer Batch has come to an end. It has been a pleasure to participate as a #productmanager #mentor in this magnificent #mentoringprogram. It's the first time in my career that I have a mentor. And I couldn't have wished for a better one! Natalia V. and I had our 3rd meeting yesterday. She guides me through the uncertainty of the Product job, helps me develop better stakeholder relations and navigates through diverse issues. Most of all she supports me in making sure that I stay on track with my goals. Thank you, Natalia, you're a tremendous help!

What I like the most about participating in the Product League mentoring programme is their curation and matching with great mentees. Always great conversationalists, always ready to reflect and share, and always keen to develop new skills. Love it.

Mentoring product managers is a very "selfish" endeavor, in a way. I always feel I learn more by teaching, than they do, by learning. It feels unfair, but it's also silly - I am constantly learning from others who are willing to teach - whether it's a podcast episode, like the one that Lenny Rachitsky has, or a book, or someone with whom I work. Iron sharpens iron. Give #mentoring a try, try to be both a mentor and a mentee, and don't expect to happen naturally - seek it out actively, like with Product League.

It has been a month since the product league winter batch ended, and I'm still processing the journey I did towards my goal of #BecomeTheBestPMICanBe. Moriya Kassis and Product League team you're doing amazing work, building both a helpful framework for learning and a great community. I got to know some brilliant motivated product managers during this time, each one with his own uniqueness, and willingness to share and support. Trusting the matching algorithm was a fantastic decision, and I want to give a big shoutout to my awesome mentor Diego Coelho. Diego was engaged and committed from the first email I sent him throughout the whole process. Always listened carefully, provided valuable insights and advice, shared from his knowledge and expertise. He was very supportive and encouraging, and gave me the confidence to take on new challenges. We talked about different subjects from the product management world, soft skills and our experience in different situations. Friends tv series was mentioned as a reference in one of our sessions, and I really feel I got a mentor who will be there for me. Thank you Diego Coelho for everything, my experience wouldn't have been the same without you.

Product League Batch#6 has ended. What a crazy journey... As opposed to Batch#5, we started this batch while we're already all-in with covid19. Face to face meetings and events were out of a question, and that was the hardest part, especially for me. I can't help it - I love the in-person 1 on 1 mentoring meetings. Just like a great customer interview 🙂 But my mentees nailed it and today I'm super proud of the lovely Jordan 🌸 and Mr. cool Roee 😎 for being committed to the entire process. We all have sometimes days where we can't even arrange our thoughts because of overload 🤯 After a series of such days, I remembered I have this "in case of emergency" cards from product league, and decided to check out what's hidden under one of the cards. Well it was surprising motivation. It mentioned adventures, and it made me smile since joining some adventures recently brought me where I am today, including the adventure of being a leaguer. The new lunar year is starting, and it isn’t late to share the another great event happened to me last year. Applying to the two batches of Product League last year was one of the best decision in my career so far. It helped me to realize where I want to go. Retros sind natürlich teamintern, aber ein Thema unser 🐸 Welt #Product Retros kann ich leaken: ⏲ Time Management, #Meeting Load und der Mangel an #Fokuszeit. Welche Action Items haben wir in letzter Zeit umgesetzt, unsere Zeit besser zu nutzen? 🖍 Zuerst haben wir den Rotstift angesetzt: Wir haben Meetings verkürzt, zusammengelegt oder ganz gestrichen. Interessant, wie viele redundante Meetings es gibt. So sind bestimmt 2,5 Stunden pro Woche pro Person zusammen gekommen. 👩‍👩‍👦‍👦 Uns ist aufgefallen, dass bei gar nicht wenigen Meetings das ganze Team am Start war. Häufig reicht es aber auch, wenn einer dabei ist und dann eine Zusammenfassung schreibt. Insbesondere bei den vielen Reviews, Demos, Jour Fixes etc. eine Überlebens-Strategie! 📆 Und dann gibt es notwendige Meetings, die aber effektiver und effizienter gestaltet sein könnten. 📝 Es gilt z.B. der Grundsatz: "Kein Meeting ohne Agenda". Themen werden vorab in einem Slack-Channel gesammelt. Im Team Meeting haben wir umlaufende "Zeremonienmeister" für Timekeeping und Protokoll. Und "First Things First": Gerade bei komplexen Themen immer mit Status Quo, Problem und Ziel starten. 💡 Manchmal müssen wir mehr als einmal iterieren - bei einem regelmäßigen Synch wollten wir durch besseres Timekeeping die Effizienz verbessern, haben aber eher ein uninspiriertes Themen-Stakkato erzeugt. Resultat: Fokus und Priorität gingen unter - jetzt kommt der nächste Versuch. 📜 Was wir probieren wollen: Die #Amazon-Regel in vereinfachter Form: Vorab ein Memo schreiben, am Anfang gemeinsam lesen und dann diskutieren. 👁‍🗨Haben wir jetzt unseren Meetingload gebändigt? Nein - das ist eine dauerhafte Aufgabe. Nehmen wir uns mehr Fokuszeit? Vielleicht ein bisschen. Nutzen wir unsere eingesetzte Zeit sinnvoller?
