I am in the classic career transition: I have ~ 20 years of progressive experience in health care strategy and business development, and this year I graduated with a PhD Degree in Management and Computer Science (interdisciplinary). I am experiencing all the common signs of launching a new career as a Data Scientist without direct experience and in a new industry (I have chosen Oil & Gas). So far, the course has helped me with refining the study plan and starting to identify impact contacts in the Oil & Gas industry for reach-out and purposeful networking. What I would recommend for the course is to make more emphasis on distinct career transitions: from a nurse to an analyst, from a writer to a project manager, and so on. Current examples include contiguous vocations, such as from an analyst to a data scientist which is not distinct enough to create serious, seemingly insurmountable barriers in competing with other experienced candidates. Overall, I believe the course has been a solid investment with its common sense ideas refined into practical approaches scripted with tools (for example, the concept of a value validation project). I also appreciate the honest disclosure that the course is not a magical pill that removes any personal discipline, hard work, persistence, etc.

I'm a language teacher, pivoting my career into data analytics. The biggest challenge during the pivot process is I don't actually realize that it's very possible for each of us to change our career, and Austin tackled that in the introduction section. After finishing section 1, I managed to actually clarified my learning step, which is to learn SQL, Excel, Tableau, and Power BI. The most valuable part of the course is the actionable section, where I have to find my required skill by using a skill tracker, where I can reach out to people easily by using a contact tracker.
