I've been sitting with a lot of thoughts about my experience at OT SCADA CON last week. I could write a giant paragraph on all the amazing things I experienced....the wonderful content, how well it was executed, the quality of the swag, the AMAZING raffles....and the list goes on. But here is what I want to highlight. It was the space and generosity. The expansive space in this community to be who you are and that be ok. To come with the knowledge you have and the experiences youve lived and have people genuinely interested in that. And the generosity of people who are experts in what they do being willing to share what they know so that we are all better. I can't recommend it enough. When I lost my National Park Service position back in February, it was like the carpet was ripped out from under me. Scrambling for next steps, Alex Marcy took a chance on me, and here we are! After several valuable sessions at OT SCADA CON, we wrapped up the event with a guided tour of the Process Training Unit (PTU) at the Endress+Hauser Group facility, and as someone who is passionate about the automation world and a daily PlantPAx user, it was a great opportunity to walk through the setup and get a closer look at how everything is put together. The setup was well-designed: Endress+Hauser handles all the instrumentation and process skids, presenting their technologies within a controlled environment built specifically for hands-on training and demonstration. For Automation, Control and Visualization, they have implemented Allen-Bradley PLCs and VersaView HMIs from Rockwell Automation, all orchestrated through the PlantPAx system. Everything is monitored by their Industrial data center, which ties it all together in a powerful and integrated way. Big shout-out to Jacob Leddy for guiding us through the tour, your knowledge and the way you explained each part made the experience even more enjoyable. Kudos to the entire Endress+Hauser team for creating such a well-executed space for learning and collaboration. To all fellow professionals in the automation industry, if you ever get the chance to explore a PTU like this, do not miss it. It is basically Disneyland for Automation folks. As I’m still boppin’ around Houston, I want to take a moment to reflect and thank everyone that contributed to my experience at OT SCADA CON. This was an incredibly eye-opening experience. For the past couple of years I feel like I’ve been in a bit of a funk trying to figure out where I belong in the company I work for and especially in the industry we’re in. Being the only rep on my team with zero field experience or integration experience has been weighing down my confidence despite having 4 years of experience working with and troubleshooting problems involving #Ignition , so having the opportunity to come to this conference to learn, connect, and integrate myself more into this industry has been incredibly beneficial for me. A couple of special shoutouts: Thank you David Garcia for your pep talk Thursday night— your reminder that my self doubt is not my voice really helped me get on stage to sing a song that only 2 people in the room knew 🫣. Thank you Roohi Raza for your clear and concise presentation on data processing. You reminded me how much data analytics captures my attention! Thank you Dan White and Brian Barrett for just welcoming me to the community with open arms! Your energy made me feel like I always knew you! OT SCADA CON Recap: A Collaborative Experience What I appreciated most about OT SCADA CON was the atmosphere. It didn’t feel like a typical conference. The speakers weren’t placed above the attendees… we were all peers, sharing knowledge and learning from each other. Everyone brought value to the table. The 20-minute sessions were focused, educational, and left room for real conversation. I led two talks: • What is Industry 4.0 and how it set the stage for digital transformation • Building functional MES namespaces using a Unified Namespace. What surprised me was how many OT and controls experts are deeply skilled in automation, but still learning the higher levels of the stack: MES, UNS, digital strategy. It helped me realize how much I’ve learned, and how useful my perspective can be to others on this path. 💡 The curse of knowledge is very real. One standout session showed live data on over 400,000 exposed industrial devices—vulnerable modbus ports, default passwords on HMIs. It was a wake-up call on cybersecurity. Ashley Shirley is also a masterful speaker. There were also great discussions around IT networking, DCS, and verticals like oil & gas. After Karaoke night, one of my favorite moments was talking with someone from the medical tech space. He was super smart, brand new to industrial automation, and now considering becoming an integrator. Getting his perspective was super valuable to me. OT SCADA CON reminded me that transformation happens faster when we learn from each other and that real progress comes when we set ego aside and focus on connection, curiosity, and collaboration. Which is going to be more important than ever as we integrate with artificial intelligence. What stood out to you most about the conference?

OT SCADA CON Recap: A Collaborative Experience What I appreciated most about OT SCADA CON was the atmosphere. It didn’t feel like a typical conference. The speakers weren’t placed above the attendees… we were all peers, sharing knowledge and learning from each other. Everyone brought value to the table. The 20-minute sessions were focused, educational, and left room for real conversation. I led two talks: • What is Industry 4.0 and how it set the stage for digital transformation • Building functional MES namespaces using a Unified Namespace. What surprised me was how many OT and controls experts are deeply skilled in automation, but still learning the higher levels of the stack: MES, UNS, digital strategy. It helped me realize how much I’ve learned, and how useful my perspective can be to others on this path. 💡 The curse of knowledge is very real. One standout session showed live data on over 400,000 exposed industrial devices—vulnerable modbus ports, default passwords on HMIs. It was a wake-up call on cybersecurity. Ashley Shirley is also a masterful speaker. There were also great discussions around IT networking, DCS, and verticals like oil & gas. After Karaoke night, one of my favorite moments was talking with someone from the medical tech space. He was super smart, brand new to industrial automation, and now considering becoming an integrator. Getting his perspective was super valuable to me. OT SCADA CON reminded me that transformation happens faster when we learn from each other and that real progress comes when we set ego aside and focus on connection, curiosity, and collaboration. Which is going to be more important than ever as we integrate with artificial intelligence. What stood out to you most about the conference?

I'm not exactly a techie (I am the mom who willfully refuses to learn how to work the Xbox so my children won't ask me to fix it when it breaks), and aside from what my husband Scott Chapman C.E.M. tells me about programming, I don't know much about automation and engineering (sorry, everyone!). My background is in the creative arts, so I was mostly there at OT SCADA CON to support him and be responsible for the event photography. Even though Automation isn't my area of expertise or a huge interest of mine, I had a blast and actually really enjoyed hearing from all the speakers. Everyone was super friendly, and it was great to see the speakers shine in their element and share their insights. A few times I was mistaken for one of the Automation Ladies and I was even asked a handful of technical questions which I had NO idea how to answer-- next year y'all will have to help me write out some smart-sounding responses on my arm because I surely won't remember what to say. 😂 The event team did an awesome job, and it was truly impressive how quickly they pulled this little dream off. Take it from me ---if I, as a photographer and artist, had a great time at an engineering/automation event, and learned a lot in just two days, you definitely would too! I decided to pop down to Houston to support the Automation Ladies with their first event, OT SCADA CON, and I’m so happy I decided to go! First, let me say that choosing to do something like this, planning it, getting sponsors, and then *pulling it off* is incredible. All while carrying on with normal (not normal, extraordinary) day jobs. Congrats to Alicia Gilpin (Ali G) , Nikki Gonzales and all of the rest of the team for a great event. I really look forward to seeing it grow and evolve next year. And I do hope it grows next year, because the industry needs more chances for industry professionals to come together to learn, network, and share, without vendor agendas and influence. Our own ICC is famous for a collaborative environment, but it’s still centered around Ignition. Here, they brought together experts of every kind to present on a TON of subjects, so that we could all get out of our specialties and learn a little more about different areas of this vast industrial world. Above all it was a chance to connect, and it was so great to see both people I know, and meet many new people that I’m now excited to know! Getting #Crowdstuck for 3 extra days in Seattle could not keep me from making it, albeit a half day late, to OT SCADA CON. There’s a lot of positives to share about this absolutely BANANAPANTS 1.5 month concept-to-reality event that Alicia Gilpin (Ali G) and Nikki Gonzales put together with the help of their multi-talented team. BUT one thing stuck out the most to me. There were a few times a speaker got tongue-twisted or stuck during a presentation and what I witnessed on multiple occasions was…different. In previous similar situations, particularly with a room of many engineers, I have often seen quiet scoffing all the way to outright verbal derision. Here though, I witnessed the entire room lift the speaker up with yells of “You got this!” and “You’re crushing this!” and guess what happened? Unlike the reaction to the derision which is often retreating further I saw the speaker feel the encouragement immediately and get right back on track. This damn near had me in tears 🥲 Community building is so important and NOT easy. The one Ali and Nikki are building is unlike anything I have ever experienced in my 19 years in and around #industrialautomation Chapeau Automation Ladies! You built something beautiful 🙏🏽🙌🏽👌🏽 THIS IS THE WAY
