RetireJapan Testimonials

I am a 50-year British resident in Japan. I am not all that interested in financial matters but your newsletter gives me just the right dose of these plus other interesting links and tidbits. I look forward to reading it every week (and also rely on your astute book recommendations!).

As a long-term resident of Japan who has decided to retire in this country, I find the weekly updates from RetireJapan to be particularly thought-provoking. Thanks to Ben's suggestions, I have been introduced to many reputable sources of information (e.g., short articles, podcasts, videos, etc.) and SMEs on topics relevant to retirement in Japan. I also appreciate the fact that Ben routinely shares some of my articles with the extended community of RetireJapan.

Retire Japan is an absolutely essential resource for foreigners working in Japan. No other site is as candid and as helpful and direct in helping foreigners here to plan ahead. I was first alerted to it when nearing my retirement a few years ago and I have since consulted it frequently and commented and submitted postings myself. Now I am old enough to see how some foreigners living in Japan have ended up quite badly financially and I believe that we must all try to get the word out about planning your finances and investments early. I must also add that I've enjoyed Ben's "Monday Morning Read" because I always find something of interest and some of the readings and links he provides tackle the really big questions like how much money one needs to retire, even the purpose and meaning of life.

I was introduced to Retire Japan by a friend a few years ago. The site, the forum and now the YouTube channel give sensible, useful advice for those in Japan trying to secure their financial futures.
I highly recommend it. Read everything you can, and join the forum. There are no stupid questions.

I discovered RetireJapan in 2017 when I first moved to Japan and was struggling to make ends meet. I had been spending all of my income each month and was feeling the pinch when I realized that my salary was much lower than what I was used to back home. That's when a friend mentioned RetireJapan to me. I started reading their blog posts, following the discussions on the forum, and reading books recommended by the community. I also stopped smoking and put the money I saved towards building an emergency fund and then towards a robo-advisor to start my investing journey.
Over time, I learned how to take control of my finances and started investing on my own. As a result, I've been able to increase my salary and no longer rely on a robo-advisor. I contribute to NISA and iDeCo every month and most importantly still smoke-free ;)
Looking back, I can't believe how much I've accomplished in just a few short years thanks to the guidance and support I received from RetireJapan. I'm now looking forward to the next 30+ years with confidence and a solid financial foundation.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, I highly recommend checking out RetireJapan. They have a wealth of knowledge and resources to help you get started and keep you on track as you work towards your financial goals. Don't wait – start small and who knows, a few years down the line you may be writing your own testimonial here, just like I did!
