Wall of love for Ladies Get Paid

I made my pitch to my boss and she offered me a really cheap increase- of $3,000 more a year and said with that increase, that I would become an exempt employee, losing my overtime protections. I told her that salary offer was below the minimum salary threshold for becoming an exempt employee in NY. She told me no no it’s fine, the laws have changed, there are no minimums.

I recently had a performance review and wanted to ask for a raise (the first time since I started the job). I took my friend out for drinks to ask for advice because I was really scared to have this conversation. She told me about ladies get paid and she role played with me for two hours, telling me tips she had learned from the webinars/trainings, until I had a great pitch prepared and could say it in the most confident way possible (read: without tearing up or having a panic attack).

Hi, Aliza from the DC team here! I wanted to shoot you both a note about something unrelated to the DC committee though. Earlier this week, I posted a consulting/job opportunity on the LGP slack group, and the responses that I received were AMAZING. I had 6-7 women reach out to me in less than 2 days, and at least half seem like they could be a strong fit -- either for this role, or one in the near future. I was also impressed because I actually received responses from a diverse pool of candidates.

I'm just so grateful for the work you're doing. For the first time I feel like I have the tools and the confidence to find a great next job, and to say no to opportunities that aren't right for me or my career.

Taking a moment today to express my gratitude to this amazing community and @clairelovesyou. I was recently asked to interview for a new job. After panicking about the interview (haven't had one in many years), I purchased the "How to Nail the Interview" web class. It was so immensely helpful and gave me the confidence to walk in ready to succeed. I left the interview feeling like I had, well, nailed it! Apparently the company thought so too, as I ended up being offered the job! I had wanted to take the Negotiating web class as well, but didn't have any room in my budget at the time. I read through comments on this slack group, which were incredibly helpful, and ended up with a salary offer at more than double what I currently make!! Ladies Get Paid—the platform and private Slack group for sharing advice and tools for career advancement—has been a brilliant resource. I discovered it when I was negotiating a contract for a job. I knew that I deserved to earn more money, but didn’t know where to start. In the group I saw that women were tackling this and other questions, such as ways to manage time, prioritize their pay, and figure out a better work-life balance. Through learning from the experiences of others, I managed to negotiate a fair contract for myself.

Thank you again for not just putting on an amazing and inspiring conference, but for also forming such a supportive community of kick-ass ladies helping ladies! Before the conference, my aunt asked if I was looking to get more involved with LGP and I said I was happy being simply a member, but I feel so inspired after the weekend, I'm reaching out to see how I can get more involved.

Claire, I've been a member of LGP since 2016 and this was my first non-networking event. I just want to say thank you - for EVERYTHING you do. Also specifically for taking a topic with such emotional baggage, and having the courage and leadership to help so many other women work through it. (Just saying, a LGP journal, some version of the 5 minute journal or a digital version a la an app (or in partnership with the Shine app) is not a bad idea...)

Thank you Claire! Just wanted to drop a quick note and say I accepted an offer from my dream job. The salary offered was already within my ideal range, but I was able to negotiate $3k more out of the deal and I'm feel endlessly proud of myself for making it happen. Thank you again for the tips in the negotiation toolkit - it was so helpful to craft some scripts of my own and have them handy during the process.

Claire gave me so many key phrases and tips on how to talk to my supervisors that I will seriously be using for the rest of my life. By using those tips, and telling myself I was excited for my review and not nervous, I’m now going to be working in a higher position once a week with an 80% raise. I walked out of my performance review with a career plan that I was actually excited about and never would have come up with without Claire's help. Couldn’t have done it without Ladies Get Paid!

The LGP community has been a great source of help for me. Especially as a woman of colour, who doesn't see herself represented well or in positions of power often in the workplace, the LGP slack group has been that source of support. I want the Ladies in the North (Game of Thrones reference because I am obsessed), to have a similarly dedicated support system.

I posted this in the salary negotiations channel but I also wanted to share with you: I’ve been a LGP slack member for a few months now and one of the channels I’m always checking is the salary negotiations one. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this community – I made it through my first ever salary negotiation using all the resources you share (unfortunate it took me so long). It’s a big win for me and now I have the confidence to keep negotiating in the future!

You gave a really great talk on a ton of different topics. I had such a wonderful time at the GMGP2019 conference. It made it totally worth it to travel from San Francisco to meet all the women and the LGP team at the conference. I found the sessions to be extremely useful and most importantly, the talk from the leadership team at LGP as well as the all the speaking extremely inspiring and motivating.

Going to the conference last year quite literally changed my life and gave me this newfound confidence - of realizing that I no longer had to act differently at work because I was younger than most people and felt like I didn't have as much experience. I realized my worth and that I should be more confident in speaking up and feeling like I had a lot to bring to the table, even if others had more general experience than me. I also loved hearing women CEOs talk about how they are introverted, or sometimes cry in the bathroom, or need to decompress after a long day. I have been super inspired and empowered since the event and started to serve as a mentor to others, speak up for myself and other, and started to better plan my future.

It was just pretty amazing to see so many women excited and working together, sharing ideas and building each other up. The energy was really great and infectious.

I attended your one-day conference in Brooklyn last year, and it made me do a complete 180 on everything from salary negotiation, to the role women need to play in the workplace. It's not that I didn't believe these things; it's that I didn't believe in my own value enough to act on them. I suffered severely from Impostor Syndrome, and still do to some extent. But the way your panelists talked about the issues facing women in all careers and at all levels made me realize that I wasn't alone and that I needed to stand up, if not for myself, then for my fellow female colleagues. I'm now the cofounder of a startup looking to get funded and what I learned from your conference has empowered me to pursue and approach this work in ways I never saw myself doing.

Your presentation was one of my favorites. In fact, I now have your three mantras on my mirror and have shared with so many other women. I really felt such a sense of pride in knowing you and getting to collaborate with you in the past.

I cannot thank you enough for having me at the Ladies Get Paid Conference this year. I have been making strides in acknowledging the things that fulfill me at work & and in life since our coaching session, an incredible step in self awareness that is helping me navigate my current path while always brainstorming future endeavors.

Thank you so much. It takes a trailblazer to even dream up such a company & it's so desperately needed to give women a boost in believing in themselves & stepping up. Hang in there no matter what because you are so needed, pivot as you must but hang in there. This is too important a company to disappear.

I still need to work on my imposter syndrome, but talking about these common roadblocks in the workplace for women has been so indelible to me. I'm finding myself growing a larger mental bandwidth on how to navigate a career path and asking for what I want. For instance, yesterday, I helped my cousin practice for a ZOOM interview with me, and I borrowed some questions from one of the workshops you had on "How To Nail An Interview." I heard your voice throughout the whole meeting playing in my head and stopped her whenever she got self-deprecating or sounded like she was unsure of her capabilities for the position. I blew her away with all the borrowed advice I gave her, and she told me the information was so valuable. I shared that my newfound confidence was from Ladies Get Paid and to sign-up! So, thank you for reminding me of my worth and how I deserve to find a high paying job if I want it. Know these are hard times, but I'm learning so much through all the chaos!

I want to thank you for all the work you have done with LGP and the free BYOLs during COVID. The Teachable content and your zoom meetings have been such a source of relief for me. Through The Higher Institute courses, I've been able to connect more with the speakers through their given emails, and I also have been able to formulate a better vision for the things I'll want when I find a new job.

By launching Ladies Get Paid, you are creating a whole new paradigm for women in the workplace. Outside of the workplace. Women everywhere. This might sound distasteful because I'm sure you don't think or feel that way but it must be faced. Like it or not, this is war, at least with unenlightened ones. I was going to say men but, truly, there are plenty of women who also don't get it. Too invested in the patriarchy I guess. My point being that you are a warrior whether you realize it or not. Please remember that when you're not sure which way to turn. YOU ARE A WARRIOR!!!!!!!!! And warriors always keep going and find solutions where none seem to exist. If you refuse to give up, you will always find a way. And, of course, we are all here to help you and to back you up. But you are the trailblazer. I certainly don't have your guts.
