Most jobs rely on frameworks, best practices, and tools—the tried-and-true methods for getting things done. In Product Management, we’ve tried to replicate this by creating our own. Much of the content we consume reflects this: “Here’s what Notion/Stripe/Canva did to succeed,” or “This is what Bezos/Zuckerberg said…” The message seems to be: Follow these steps, and success will follow.
We’ve become hyper-focused on optimizing execution while neglecting the most critical part—thinking. We rarely take the time to pause, challenge assumptions, or embrace uncertainty. Instead, we default to “one-way doors,” racing to move fast and break things.
I recently took Shreyas Doshi Product Sense live cohort course, and it undid all of that. I'm usually pretty skeptical about online courses purporting to improve the way you think about problems (in particular product related problems), but the product sense course from @shreyas is certainly the exception that proves the rule here. Took @shreyas's product sense course. It's likely the best thing short of surrounding yourself with high product sense people for a few years. And the latter isn't problematic because it takes time; it's problematic bc there aren't enough high product sense people around
